What Tandem is — and isn’t

Tandem is an AI assistant for thinking through sensitive matters. It gives you preliminary analysis — a structured read on your situation and an honest signal about when something deserves a professional.

Tandem is not a law firm. Nothing here is legal advice, no attorney reviews your conversations, and using Tandem does not create an attorney-client relationship or attorney-client privilege. If you choose to share a write-up with your own lawyer while seeking their advice, that communication with them is what the law protects — not your chats here. When a matter is high-stakes — criminal charges, custody, deadlines — Tandem will tell you to get a lawyer, and it will mean it.

What happens to your conversations

By default, every conversation is deleted from our systems 7 days after your last message in it — the messages, the documents you attached, and the analysis, permanently. You can delete any conversation immediately, or mark one “Keep” to retain it until you say otherwise.

Two honest caveats, because “deleted” should mean something:

• The AI providers we build on process your messages under commercial API terms — your conversations are never used to train AI models — but those providers retain API data on their own systems for up to ~30 days before it expires from theirs too.
• Routine infrastructure backups can hold data briefly past deletion; they expire on a rolling schedule measured in days, not months.

Deletion protects you from an accumulating record. It is not a shield against the legal system: if the law ever requires us to preserve specific data we still hold, we must comply — and you should never use Tandem to plan harm or crime. The assistant won’t help with that regardless.

What we can see

We look at account-level signals to run and improve the product — sign-ups, how often the product is used, conversation titles, the “what brings you here” answer you give at signup, and the risk scores the assistant produces. To understand how the product is used, we also review fully masked usage replays: they show which screens and buttons people use, but every word you type or read and every document you share is blanked out on your device before anything reaches us. We treat the content of your conversations as yours: we don’t read it in the ordinary course of business, and most of it deletes itself anyway. If we ever need to access specific content — debugging a problem you report, or investigating abuse — that’s the scope, not browsing.

The practical stuff

• You must be 18+ and use Tandem only for lawful purposes.
• $30/month after a 7-day free trial; cancel anytime and billing stops at the period’s end. Card required for the trial; no charge until it ends.
• The product is provided as-is during beta. AI can be wrong — confidently. Verify anything consequential with a professional before acting on it.
